The Will of Henry Honeysett,
Farmer of Linton, Kent

This is the last Will and Testament of me Henry Honeysett of Linton in the County of Kent Farmer made the thirtieth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventeen

First I revoke and make void all former wills and testaments by me made and I do constitute and appoint Peter Pope of Hawkhurst in the said County of Kent Farmer and Richard Scoons of Hunton in the same County Gentleman Executors of this my last will and testament and I give and bequeath unto the said Richard Scoons a legacy of twenty pounds to be paid to him within twelve calendar months next after my decease and subject to the payment of my just debts funeral charge the costs of proving this my will and other incidental expenses

I give and bequeath the use occupation with interest and annual profits and produce of all and every my leasehold Estates and of all and every my personal Estate whatsoever not hereinbefore otherwise disposed of unto my wife Susanna Honeysett and her assigns for and during the term of her natural life and I direct that an Inventory of my said personal estate be made within three calendar months next after my decease and a copy thereof delivered to my said wife and I give and devise unto my said wife her heirs and assigns all that part and parcel of Land containing by estimation two acres and a half or thereabouts now in my own occupation situate on Coxheath in the parish of Linton aforesaid which Charles Couchman lately purchased or contracted to purchase of Messrs Beard Bassett Brenchley and Stary? and which I have purchased of the said Charles Couchman to hold the same unto and to the use of my said wife Susanna Honeysett her heirs and assigns for ever and I give and devise my two freehold messuages or tenements with the Bakers shop yards gardens and appurtenances thereunto belonging situate at Burwash in the County of Sussex and my freehold messuage or tenement barn workshop two cottages and four acres and a half or thereabouts of land with the appurtenances thereunto belonging situate at Coxheath aforesaid in the parish of Hunton aforesaid and lately purchased by me of Thomas Clout and also all other my real estate whatsoever and wheresoever not hereinbefore otherwise disposed of unto my said wife Susanna Honeysett and her assigns for and during the term of her natural life and from and immediately after her decease I give and devise my said several freehold messuages or tenements lands hereditaments and real Estate devised to her for her life as aforesaid unto and to the use of the said Peter Pope and Richard Scoons their heirs and assigns upon trust with all convenient speed after the decease of my said wife to sell and absolutely dispose of the same together or in parcels by public auction or private contract for the best price or prices which can be reasonably gotten for the same unto such person or persons as shall be willing to purchase the same and his their or their heirs & assigns and I do declare that the script or scripts of the said Peter Pope and Richard Scoons or the survivor of them his heirs or assigns for the purchase money or monies therein expected to be received shall sufficiently discharge the purchaser or purchasers from the same and from all liability to see to the application or for the misapplication or nonapplication thereof and from and immediately after the decease of my said wife I give and bequeath my four leasehold messuages or tenements with the appurtenances situate in Higglers Lane, Friars Street, Blackfriars, London unto and equally between my Nephew and Nieces Henry Harriett and Eliza the three children of my brother Benjamin Honeysett to hold the same unto my said Nephew and Nieces and their several and respective executors adm(ministrat)ors and assigns as tenants in common for and during all my estate term? and interest which shall be then to rent therein

And item I give & Bequeath to my Goddaughter Catherine Crispe the Daughter of William Crispe and Alicia his wife the sum of Fifty pounds to be paid to her within twelve calendar months next after the decease of my said wife

and I give and bequeath unto my godson Stephen Henry Long son of Stephen Long of No 16 Southampton Buildings, Chancery Lane, London the sum of twenty pounds to be paid to him within twelve calendar months next after the decease of my said wife

and it is my will and mind and I do hereby order and direct that from and immediately after the decease of my said wife the lease lately granted to me by William Crispe of Walworth in the County of Surrey Butcher by Indenture bearing date the fourteenth day of June last of a Farm and lands in Linton and Hunton aforesaid now in my occupation shall be surrendered and delivered up to the said William Crispe his heirs or assigns to the intent that the same may crave and determine

and I give and bequeath unto Thomas Wallis James Wallis Ann the wife of William Kitcherman and Elizabeth the wife of James Taylor the four children of my said wife by a former husband the sum of one thousand pounds equally to be divided between them share and share alike and to be paid to them respectively within twelve calendar months next after the decease of my said wife and it is my will and mind that such sums of money as I have already advanced to the said four last mentioned legatees or any or either of them as will appear in my slip ledger and in my pocket books for the years one thousand eight hundred and sixteen and one thousand eight hundred and seventeen shall be secured and is taken to be part of the shares of the said Thomas Wallis James Wallis Ann Kitcherman and Elizabeth Taylor respectively of and in the said sum of one thousand pounds and be deducted therefrom it being my intention that each of the said four last mentioned legatees shall have and receive such a sum only in addition to what he or she hath already received as aforesaid as will make to each of the said four legatees with such addition a legacy or sum of two hundred and fifty pounds

And from and immediately after the decease of my said wife I give and bequeath that money to arise from the sale of my real estate hereinbefore devised in trust to be sold as aforesaid and all and every my personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever not hereinbefore otherwise disposed of unto and equally between all and every the children lawfully begotten or to be begotten which shall be living at my decease of my brothers Benjamin Honeysett David Honeysett & William Honeysett and of my deceased sister Ann and of my sisters Elizabeth Sophia and Alice and I do will and direct that the same shall be paid assigned or transferred to the said children of my said brothers and sisters respectively within twelve calendar months next after the decease of my said wife and that altho(ugh) the sum will not be payable assignable or transferable sooner the same shall be considered vested interests in the said children respectively immediately upon my decease

And I do declare that it shall be lawful for the said Executors to retain to and reimburse themselves all reasonable expenses which they shall be put to in the execution of this my will and that they shall not be answerable the one for the other of them or for more monies or other effects than they shall actually receive or for any loss or losses which shall happen without their own wilful default and it (is) my will that if at my decease the purchase which I have made or have contracted to make of Charles Couchman of the two acres and a half or thereabouts of land at Coxheath in Linton devised by me to my said wife her heirs and assigns as aforesaid shall not have been fully paid for or completed the same shall be completed out of my personal Estate for the benefit of my said wife her heirs and assigns to whom I give devise and bequeath my contract for the said purchase and all benefit thereof In witness whereof I the said testator Henry Honeysett have to the first four sheets of this my last will and testament contained in five sheets of paper set my hand and to the fifth or last sheet thereof my hand and seal the day and year first above written
