William Honeysett (ca.1791 - 1878) agricultural labourer of Sutton Valence, Kent

William's baptism has not been found but he claimed to have been born in Headcorn and was almost certainly a son of Samuel and Elizabeth. He married Winifred Weller (1793-1860, daughter of Thomas & Elizabeth) in Headcorn on 22 April 1811 and among their children were:

Winifred had previously had a son, Stephen Weller, by William Deane in 1809.

In 1841 William and Winifred were living in Lower Street, Sutton Valence, with Eliza, John, Jesse and Lewis.

In 1851 they were still in Sutton Valence, at Belsingham? Cottages, with Eliza, John, Jesse and Lewis and Eliza who by this time was the widowed Eliza Pressnail and she had her two children, Eliza and Eli with her.

Winifred died in Sutton Valence of consumption on 29 August 1860 and I have not found William in the 1861 census, although Jesse and Lewis were lodging in Sutton Valance then.

In 1871 William was staying with his daughter Elizabeth and her second husband Thomas Gulvin.

William died in 1878.

Of their children:

  • William, a farm labourer, married Charlotte Porter and lived in Sutton Valence where they had 15 children.
  • Lucy probably married John Carter in Sutton Valence on 16 October 1829.
  • Ann had an illegitimate daughter Harriett baptised on 1 Dec 1833 and a son Francis in May 1836 but he died in July 1837.
  • Winifred died aged 14 and was buried in Sutton Valence on 9 April 1835.
  • Sophia had an illegitimate son, John, in 1840 and both were in the Hollingbourne workhouse in 1841.  John died in 1843 and in 1845 Sophia married Thomas Sage and they lived in Thornham.
  • Sarah died aged 15 and was buried in Sutton Valence on 20 May 1840.
  • Eliza married Eli Pressnail in East Farleigh on 7 July 1844 and they had two children. However Eli died of TB in 1849.  Eliza married Thomas Gulvin, a gardener, in 1852 and they lived in Sutton Valence where she had several more children. Eliza died in 1884.
  • John lived in Sutton Valence with his wife, Mary, and three children; Sophia, Jesse and Eliza. During the 1870's they moved to Brighton. John died in 1906.
  • Lewis became a bricklayer's labourer, married Mary Austen and lived in Elmley, Isle of Sheppey, with their children.
