James Honeysett (1756 - ?) of Ashburnham

James, a son of Thomas and Ann, was baptised in Dallington on 7 November 1756. He married Mary Pimm in Ashburnham on 9 June 1776. They are believed to have had one child baptised:

James 28 Sep 1777 Hellingly

It is not clear when Mary died but it is known that James, a widower, married Sarah Sivyer (1766-1852) in Ashburnham on 21 October 1788.  It is, however, likely that they had several children together before this, as the following were all baptised as children of James and Sarah and were probably children of this couple:

Samuel 1 Sep 1779 Hellingly
Hannah 17 Nov 1812 Lewes, St Thomas - born 14 Jan 1783
Sarah 2 Dec 1812 Lewes, All Saints - born 24 Feb 1788
Selina 19 Jun 1808 Herstmonceux - aged 15 (b ~1792/3)
Edward 15 Nov 1818 Ashburnham - born 13 Jan 1795
Thomas ca.1799 adult baptism in 1838 Ashburnham

James and Sarah were clearly not regular worshipers at the Church of England, so they may have been non-conformists, and there were probably other children whose baptisms have not been found. Thomas was mentioned in the will of James' brother Edward.

According to Edward's will James lived in Warbleton and had died before 1837 although no burial has been found.  In 1851 Sarah, then 84, was living at the Alms Houses in Ashburnham; she was buried in Ashburnham in September 1852 aged 86.

Of their children:

  • Samuel married Sarah Bristow and, later, Keziah Betts and lived in Hellingly.
  • Edward married Ann Russell and lived in Ashburnham.
  • Thomas married Hannah Weeks and lived in Ashburnham.
